Zebra Swallowtail, April 5, 2018

Thankful Thursday and Little Things Thursday

Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, April 1, 2018
Today I am thankful for an unexpected pleasure - finding a Zebra Swallowtail Butterfly!

At first I was not sure what I was seeing - the points on the wings look like horns, the red spots look like a face! Then I got it correctly orientated in my mind - head down, hindwings up!
It was 'mud puddling' - sucking up minerals from the damp ground.

Hope you are having a beautiful day!

  5. Congratulations on the Zebra. I rarely see one here, unlike other members of the swallowtail family that are fairly common, so it's always an "occasion" when I do.
