Tree Following, March 7, 2018

Tree Following is a once a month meme that urges bloggers to choose a tree, photograph it as it goes through the seasons of the year, and post the photos on their blogs on or near the 7th day of each month. (It is open for a week, so there is plenty of time for you to join in the fun).

I thought to use a tree in my own backyard, but yesterday was a such wonderfully sunny day that I went to the park, and there I found my tree for this year.

Lee County, Mississippi, USA, March 6, 2018
It is a young tree that was planted in memory of a child that died in a car accident a few years ago. A very sad thing, and I hope this living memorial helps ease the family's pain and sorrow.

Did you notice the bird's nest? Perhaps the birds that built it last year will return to raise another family there. How exciting that would be!

And there are many more possibilities: stormy weather, photos of raindrops on the leaves, fully leafed out in mid-summer, wildflowers growing around it, colorful Autumn leaves, maybe snow in December!

Now for the more difficult part - identifying it. The bud looks like a Maple to me, but I think we will have to wait until it leafs out to be sure.

Have a wonderful day!

  1. That's a nice idea but I don't know what tree to follow here around, they are pine trees and always green !

    1. Oh but their very greenness when other trees are bare is a blogpost in itself! Then there is their interesting rough bark (how big around is the tree you select?), their cones, pollen - do you have allergies, their scent, their uses as decorations. That is six post ideas right there! You are an artist - you could paint us a picture.
Think about it! Look with an artist's eye!
Hope you will join in Tree Following - its fun!

  4. Looking forward to finding out what tree it is. And hoping that some birds will make a home in that nest.

  5. Hi Lea, thanks for joining us! That's a beautiful flower shot. I look forward to learning what kind of tree it is, as I've been trying to improve my winter tree id skills (long ways to go yet)
