Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday, and Floral Friday Fotos

1. Sparkling Water (Sky Watch Friday)
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, October 26, 2017
Although we are moving toward colder weather, we have had mild days with beautiful blue skies this week.

The bright sunshine really makes the water sparkle!

2. Autumn
McNairy County, Tennessee, USA, October 21, 2017
The leaves are turning just north of us in Tennessee! Hoping we will get good Autumn color here in Mississippi next week.

3. Good Food
Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, October 21, 2017
Last Friday was my 67th birthday, but my husband had a doctor's appointment that day, so we waited until Saturday to celebrate. Lemon-pepper Grilled Catfish filets, baked Sweet Potato, Strawberry Fields Salad with Raspberry Vinaigrette Dressing, and Iced Tea at Hagy's Catfish Hotel Restaurant.

4. Farming
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 25, 2017
It is cotton picking time in Mississippi.

As he reached the end of the field and turned around, we get a better view of the cotton going into the picker. (Sorry the power pole was in the way).

When the picker is full, the cotton will be dumped into a trailer and taken to the cotton gin.

5. Confederate Rose (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 26, 2017
Confederate Rose, Hibiscus mutabilis, (not a Rose; it is a Hibiscus) is a shrub that grows in the southern United States. It likes full sun and moist soil, and can be propagated through cuttings or by saving the seeds.

  2. Enjoyed your photos - I've never seen a cotton picker in action. I finally decided to do some research on Confederate roses (which I've never seen bloom in person) and, as I suspected, only hardy to zone 7. I was wondering if anyone was trying to breed them to be more hardy. Seeing that they can be grown from cuttings, maybe I could be that person, one day. I do have a camellia growing in my upstate New York back yard, which has survived two winters.

  3. Fun to see the mechanized cotton picker ... I remember sore hands from picking cotton as a child! The hibiscus is gorgeous. Pretty skies. Catfish and sweet potatoes -- yum!!!!!!! Happy Friday.

  5. Happy Birthday Lea, that looks like a delicious celebratory meal. I have once again enjoyed all your photographs. That fountain is full of sparkles, you have captured them beautifully. Lovely frilly petals on the Confederate Rose. I also meant to mention how much I enjoy your field photos. We are always wondering what crops are planted and now we know what a cotton crop looks like. Very enjoyable post, thank you so much and have a great weekend.

  6. Y'know, I live in cotton country too, but I HAVE YET to see them actually out in the field picking it. Always the aftermath in the bales. I like that photo very much.

Oh, and the grilled catfish and baked sweet potato!! I could really go for that kind of celebrating.

And the fountain and rose...gorgeous Lea.

  9. The Confederate Rose is so delicate in form and color - I wonder who named a hibiscus a rose, and why? I am salivating over the catfish and sweet potatoes - yummy! Cotton harvester - just think how much time/labor has been saved with this incredible machine. Have a super weekend!

  10. Great selection of randoms. I've never seen Cotton harvested before, very interesting. - The food looks good but I'm not much of a fish eater. Gorgeous Fall trees and the Pink flower is very pretty.
