Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday, and Good Fences
1. Autumn's Chill (Sky Watch Friday)
|
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, October 2, 2017 |
It was a cool, windy day with misting rain when we met friends for lunch at the Pickwick Inn Restaurant on Monday. The restaurant overlooks Pickwick Lake with a view of the dam.
This Great Blue Heron seemed to be feeling the chill in the air, too.
2. River Traffic
|
On the Tennessee River near Pickwick Dam, October 2, 2017 |
After we drove across Pickwick Dam, we were surprised to see several Cabin Cruisers on the Tennessee River.

Is this one large enough to be called a yacht?
3. Tribute to Elvis sculptures

'Heartbreak Hotel'
'(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear'
4. Outside the Fence! (Good Fences Around The World)
|
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 2, 2017 |
When driving along country roads you must watch for animals. This cow escaped her pasture and crossed the road right in front of us! We went to the farmhouse to tell the farmer that one of his cows was out, but there was no one home.
5. Farming: Soybeans
|
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, October 2, 2017 |
When we were in Tennessee on Monday, we saw vast fields of soybeans (soya beans) almost ready for harvest. When the leaves die and fall off the plants, the Combines (harvesting machines) will be driven through the fields to gather the beans.

The soybean harvest has already started here in northeast Mississippi. According to Encyclopedia Britannica, "The soybean is economically the most important bean in the world, providing vegetable protein for millions of people and ingredients for hundreds of chemical products." Source:

...there's no autumn chill here, it's more like summer. Most of the beans are in and the corn is browning up. Those guitars are great.
ReplyDeleteHello, Love the river views, boats and the guitars. The Heron is a great sighting. I have seen cows in the road, we have had horses and cows running down our street. Happy Friday, enjoy your weekend!

ReplyDeleteI love how calm the cow looks!
ReplyDeleteI love it when the soybean fields turn yellow. Beautiful photos...love the chilly-looking lake shots. That heron does look a bit miserable.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy those Elvis "guitars" in Tupelo. I've never been to Mississippi. "One day". We had our chill, but now it's warmed up again here in upstate New York.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the guitars. The great blue heron is one of my favorite birds. Fall means harvest time! Happy Friday!
ReplyDeletePretty shots! I do believe that boat is large enough to be called a yacht.
