1. Tennessee River (Sky Watch Friday)
Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, March 27, 2020
We have had a week of very variable weather. Warm, partly-cloudy days followed by rain and colder temperatures. Then cold and sunny!

The 'American Valor' out of Jeffersonville, Indiana, was pushing its barges downstream when we walked along the shore of the Tennessee River last Friday.

2. Signs of Spring: Pokeweed (Poke Sallet, Poke Salad)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, April 2, 2020
American Pokeweed, Phytolacca americana, returns from the root. The large dried stems are from last year.

3. Redbud (Floral Friday Fotos)
Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, March 27, 2020
Eastern Redbud, Cercis canadensis, is a small tree native to the eastern United States.

Clusters of blooms appear in the Spring before the leaves unfurl.
It may be seen growing wild, and it is sold in garden centers as an ornamental for home landscaping.

4. Turtles (Saturday's Critters)
Lee County, Mississippi, USA, March 2, 2020
.
5. Bald Eagle (I'd Rather B Birdin' and Signs 2)
Shiloh National Military Park, Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, March 27, 2020
A sign just outside of a split-rail fence warns people to stay away from the Eagles' nest tree.

The round dark area near the top of the tree is the nest.

Bald Eagle, Haliaeetus leucocephalus
We did not see the young eaglets, but were happy to be able to photograph one of the parents.

I hope you have a good day!
Be careful, stay safe!

  1. I think I may have seen a bald eagle a week or so flying over the river I live near. What a sight, you being able to get so close (comparatively). It's amazing seeing your nest picture, and I enjoyed the lineup of turtles. Must be fun to watch river traffic - something we don't get to see. And - redbuds! We are a long way from redbuds.

    1. That is probably the last river traffic I will be able to see for awhile. We are under orders for every one to stay on their own property unless going for food or medical reasons, and the TN River is an hour's drive from where I live. Can't claim I am going grocery shopping that far away!

  2. What a wonderful mix of spring feelings! I think that stunning pink shrub does not grow in Finland.

  3. I love how redbuds just pop in the grey-brown woods, we don't have as many pines and spruces in this valley. Soon everything will turn green. And we'll probably have a bit of green fuzz on parts of us from sitting around vegetating!

  4. As always, the turtles are my favourite.

  5. Beautiful photo of the redbud blooms. Those huge barges look too big for the river... like they might scrape bottom!

  7. Rivers, lakes and oceans are a great way to transport things, especially heavy ones. Our lake is used to transport large booms of logs cut around it's shoreline. The ocean takes those logs and moves them south to Vancouver mills and to transport via ship abroad. - Margy

  8. Wow, you got a lot of stuff going there. Love the Eagle nest--that about all I ever get---by the time the babes are born the leaves have filled out the trees. Grrr.
Love the Redbud too. They don't bloom well here
