Willy Nilly Friday, April 17, 2020

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday, Floral Friday Fotos, The Weekend in Black and White,
and on Saturday, Saturday's Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

1. The View from our Mailbox (Sky Watch Friday)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, April 16, 2020
The road is calling, but we have to stay home. Sad, but thankful for the sunny skies!

2. Oxalis (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, April 6, 2020
Oxalis can be found in many parts of the world and are known by several different names: Wood Sorrels and False Shamrocks are the most common names.

I think the specks on the petals is where rain has splashed dirt on them.

3. My Vegetable Garden
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, April 17, 2020
My 'Red Norland' potatoes are growing very well. Let's just hope they are making potatoes, too!

I have bought 4 Tomato plants, but they are still in their small pots. I hope to get them set out this weekend. I plan to plant Cucumber seeds, too, but I am undecided about Okra. It did not grow well for me last year, so I may rely on the Farmer's Markets for Okra this year.

4. Crane Fly (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, April 9, 2020
The Cranefly is a small fragile insect, larger than a mosquito, but it is not a mosquito, and it does not bite.

5. Crow in Flight (I'd Rather B Birdin' and The Weekend in Black and White)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, April 12, 2020
I intended to get a photo of this crow perched on a dead tree, but just as I clicked the shutter he took off! American Crow, Corvus brachyrhynchos.

Hope you have had a good week!

  1. I used to grow Norland Red potatoes in barrels until I found that the Yukon Gold potatoes grew larger and lasted longer in storage for me. I can harvest them in early September and keep them through March for winter meals. - Margy

  4. Hello, you have a pretty view from your mailbox. I love the Oxalis, lovely blooms. I wonderful if they have purple Oxalis? The potatoes are looking great. Neat shot of crane fly and the crow. Take care! Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend.

  5. The shamrock wouldn’t grow outside here in Prince Edward Island. It reminds me of a Russian shamrock a friend gave us years ago but it didn’t survive the move here. It was a house plant.

    ...the Oxalis sure is pretty.
    ...I love potatoes.
...Crane Fly may not bite, but they can be a pest.
    ...great silhouette.
Thanks Lea for stopping by, take care.

  8. Great to see the woods, the veggies, and the birds around your home.

  9. Now isn't that just typical of birds - you have a good shot lined up, and they move! You did well though, it's a nice action photo.

  10. The crow is a great capture! And I always wondered if those were Shamrocks...how interesting! Love the little flying insects we see in the South too! Take care and stay safe!

  11. Great crow photo! I have a shamrock plant, accidentally left it out during a freeze warning in the late fall but it's springing back to life. Pretty & pretty hardy little plants.

  12. I think that crow capture was a nice one; no worries that it wasn't the one you intended. We have a wild wood sorrel which has a tiny yellow bloom. The commercial varieties are not hardy in my zone 5b clime. May we all be able to get out safely soon.

  14. We don't see crows here (At least I haven't). Nice silhouette. And I like the false shamrock.

Thanks for adding this post link today. Great addition to I'd Rather B Birdin this week!
