Armadillo, July 9, 2019

Our World Tuesday and ABC Wednesday
A is for Armadillo - a mammal with a leathery shell and sharp claws for digging

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, June 13, 2019
The Nine-banded Armadillo, Dasypus novemcinctus, is a native of South America that migrated north into Central America and Mexico. In the early 1900s they moved even farther north into the southern United States. The long claws on its feet are hidden here in the hole it has dug searching for food (ants, termites, beetles, and worms). Armadillo means 'small armoured one' in Spanish.

Have a great day!

  8. Aren’t they the funniest looking creatures ever? I loved seeing them during our RV traveling days ...nothing like them in our native Pacific Northwest. A great picture and fun memories.
