1. Pickwick Lake (Sky Watch Friday)
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, July 9, 2019
We had a good view of the lake from our table when we met friends at the Pickwick Inn Restaurant for lunch on Tuesday. With partly cloudy skies, the temperature was 95F (35C) at noon. I was glad to be eating inside rather than out on the balcony!

2. Mallard Duck (Weekend Reflections)
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, July 9, 2019
A female Mallard Duck at Pickwick Lake makes a nice reflection.

3. Favorite Photo of the Week
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 10, 2019
Swallowtail Butterfly on Joe Pye Weed. When I bought the Joe Pye Weed at a garden center, my husband asked what it was. When I told him Joe Pye Weed, he said, "You're buying a weed!"

4. Snails (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 5, 2019
I am using bamboo canes to support some of my tomato plants. I left one laying flat on the ground overnight, and the next morning there were snails on it!

It must have been the rain that made the snails crawl out of the grass, looking for higher ground.

There were nine snails on the top side of the bamboo cane, and when I turned it over there were six more - fifteen snails on one 8-foot piece of bamboo!

5. Ruby-throated Hummingbirds (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 9, 2019
The female Ruby-throated Hummingbirds did not seem to mind sharing their feeder with a butterfly.

But one of the males kept swooping back and forth behind the butterfly, trying to chase it away.

Then he gave up and went to the other side of the feeder to drink.

I have 8 Hummingbird feeders so there is plenty for everyone!

Have a wonderful day!

  1. 95 degrees is too hot for me. We had a hot week too, for us in New York State. We've been thinking of setting up some hummingbird feeders now that my husband is retired. Enjoyed their interaction with the butterfly. Stay cool!
