Willy Nilly Friday, June 7, 2019

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday,
and on Saturday, Saturday's Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

Since most of this week's photos were made on cloudy days, click on them to get a clearer, brighter view.

1. Pickwick Lake (Sky Watch Friday)
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, June 4, 2019
Rain clouds were moving in when we met friends for lunch at the Pickwick Inn Restaurant at Pickwick Lake.

That is a Great Blue Heron preening himself on the nesting platform in the lake.

.

.

But the most interesting thing we saw on that grey cloudy day was a flock of American White Pelicans! They are large migratory birds not often seen in our part of the country. --- Click on the photo for the best view.

2. Shiloh National Military Park
Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, June 4, 2019
When we were at Shiloh National Military Park on Tuesday, they were washing the cannons!

And doing a very thorough job of it, too!

3. Farmer's Market
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, June 1, 2019
Sorry this photo is not as clear as I would like it to be, but I was shooting straight into bright morning sunlight. The Tupelo Farmer's Market allows only local folks (northeast Mississippi) to sell their wares, so it is not as busy now as it will be later in the Summer. Other farmer's markets in our area have a wider selection because they are selling fruit and vegetables grown in Florida. I visit them all!

Even though there were not a lot of vendors, I did buy a few things. Pecan pie bread (similar to banana-nut bread), home-canned squash pickles, and fresh peaches!

4. Insects (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, May 28, 2019
American Lady Butterfly

Silver-spotted Skipper

Ebony Jewelwing Damselfly

5. Woodpecker (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, May 27, 2019
Red-headed Woodpecker, Melanerpes erythrocephalus

Have a wonderful day!

  5. Red-headed Woodpecker is quite rare where I live, so it is always especially appealing to see it. Great picture.

  8. Hello Lea, It is a pleasure to find your blog, thanks to a kind comment you left on mine. I enjoyed all your photos in this post. Your style of blogging is my favorite ... being out and around, snapping some photos, and then sharing on the blog. I enjoyed the bird pics and the butterflies especially. And thanks for taking us along to the Farmer's Market. Hope you have a fine weekend and hope to see you again at John's Island. John

  10. Excellent choices. The Heron preening is great. The American Lady Butterfly is very pretty as is the Damselfly. Skippers are just that---skipping from flower to flower

  11. The Great Blue was having a bad hair day! Great pics all, though! I could eat about a peck of good peaches if I had them. No exaggeration at all.
