And what about this one? Lesser Scaup, Aythya affinis? Any help with ID is appreciated.

Of course, Great Blue Herons, Ardea herodias, sit down on their nests, but this is the first time I have seen one sitting on the ground! Just resting a bit after lunch, I suppose.

The Scaup is a very nice looking duck, but that Woodpecker is pretty special too.

ReplyDeleteLove the cormorant. I see one occasionally, but he is far from the road. He likes to perch in a dead tree on the far side of a pond. It camouflages him well. Wonderful variety of birds here.

i believe the 2nd picture, of the duck, is a lesser scaup, i see them here. the woodpecker is amazing, what a beauty with it's bright red head!!
