Red-Shouldered Hawk, January 18, 2017

ABC Wednesday and Wild Bird Wednesday

B is for Buteo - a genus of medium to large raptors
(Commonly called Hawks in the USA, but known as Buzzards in other countries)

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, January 4, 2017
I think this is a Red-shouldered Hawk, Buteo lineatus. I was driving home from a friend's house when I saw it on an electric power line near a church. It did not like my stopping in the churchyard, but waited a minute before it flew away. Just enough time for one photo.

Have a wonderful day!

  8. For sure a Red-Shouldered Hawk, and my blog was named after these beauties 7 1/2 years ago. They are the loudest Raptor in North America too~

  9. raptors are fascinating; beautiful but a bit scary

  10. Wonderful photo. We occasionally see some of those in our area too, but not as often as the Red Tailed Hawk.

  11. Wow! One chance and you caught it BEAUTIFULLY!

  12. Raptors...these birds fascinate me....nice shot btw
