Saturday's Critters, Camera Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

Eastern Box Turtles, though they stay small in size, may live to be 100 years old in the wild. If captured and kept as pets, their lifespan is considerably shorter. This one is somewhere down in our woods. They eat a wide variety of food: earthworms, snails, slugs, grubs, beetles, caterpillars, berries, mushrooms, grass, and flowers.

Did you know that Hawks can turn their heads around and look directly over their backs?
I didn't until I saw this one. I think this is a Red-Shouldered Hawk, but I am not sure.

Have a Wonderful Week-End!

  7. oh, my gosh, I saw a box turtle trying to cross the street in our neighborhood. They must not know the dangers of idiot fast drivers. They are doing what they do, migrating, and should be allowed to move around... maybe like people. LeeAnna

I am glad to see you back in Blogland - Hope this means you are feeling much better. I loved the roses (and the other flowers, too) in your last post (GBBD). Best wishes for continued health improvement.

  11. Hello!:) No, I didn't know about the extraordinary ability that Hawks have in swivelling their heads around,...that is one amazing capture. We don't have Box Turtles here, and mores the pity because I would love to come across one in the wild. Lovely capture!:)
