Saturday's Silhouettes
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 1, 2015 |
This bird flew as soon as I stopped the car beside the road. This one quick photo was all I could get. Since the bright sky background caused this to be a silhouette, I am not sure of the feather's true colors. When I first saw it, I thought it was a hawk, but now I don't think so. Anyone have an idea?
Have a great week-end!

Hello Lea, beautiful captures of the Egrets. Maybe your bird in flight is a crow or raven? Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Eileen. I just now looked up the Common Raven, Corvus corax, in my bird book (Audubon Society), and they are described as scavengers, larger than crows, having a larger bill and a wedge-shaped tail. Mississippi is not in their normal range, but I know birds don't follow the lines on a map!
DeleteHave a great week-end!

Nice bird shots - that egret is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteLove the Egrets and the relfetion in the first shot. Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful egret, so graceful with those long legs and neck.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos of the Great Egret wading and hunting in the swamp. The other bird seems like a crow but it could just be that it is a silhouette, but the feathers are caught so full of motion!
ReplyDeletelove the egrets and their kinked necks. :) nice silhouette, too!
ReplyDeleteI love the egrets! They're very elegant looking birds.

ReplyDeleteGreat details captured in the feathers in he last bird shot.
ReplyDeleteGrand photos of these birds. The one in the last photo looks huge and powerful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful...both the egret in the swamps, and the silhouetted bird....which I think as Eileen, a crow? The beak and head shape looks similar to a crow.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by this weekend and linking up at I'd Rather B Birdin'!!!
Always a pleasure to see the Great Egret! Nice snaps!!
ReplyDeleteHave a Beautiful Day!
Peace :)
Gorgeous pictures!
ReplyDeleteThat's a gorgeous picture of the egret. The other bird.... I'm with Eileen... maybe a crow.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos of all the birds! Love the silhouette of what is possibly a crow...
