Split-Rail Fences, June 4, 2015

Good Fences and Sky Watch Friday

Good Fences

Split-rail fences at Shiloh National Military Park, Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, June 1, 2015.

Split-rail fences are easy to assemble and do not require nails or fence posts. However, they use a lot more wood than other types of fences.

I think these rails are from Cedar trees, but they are so weathered it is hard to be sure.

Sky Watch Friday
Shiloh National Military Park, Monday, June 1, 2015

We had rain over the week-end and on Monday. Then mostly cloudy skies until today (Thursday) - we have sunshine!

Hope you are having a wonderful day!

  5. Fabulous shots of the split-rail fencing. Reminds me of the fences that I saw at Gettysburg National Park. I really liked the 2nd shot. Very moody sky in the last one.

  7. I like those fences, I've never seen any like that here. I don't think they would work as stock fences, so not much use to us here on the farm. I really like the second shot with the little hut in the background.

  8. Very nice. For a moment I thought that was Pea Ridge, which we visited last year.

  11. There is just nothing quite like the split rail fences, especially with the old building in the background.
