January 5, 2015, Pickwick dam on the Tennessee River |
On the other side of this wall is the lock for boats to go up and down the river. |
I was not close enough for a positive ID, but my bird book says Herring Gulls are the ones most often seen on inland waterways here in the southeastern United states.
I really like the zoom capabilities of my new camera, a Canon PowerShot SX520 HS. All three of the above photos were made from the same place on the riverbank.
Good Fences
Farther down the river where the water is calmer, there is a campground and boat ramp. This heavy chain fence marks the river's edge.

ReplyDeleteGreat pics, Lea -- and so jealous that your sunshine did not come with negative 30 windchills.
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing all your sights, but the red post and chain neat.
ReplyDeleteImpressive chain fence in quite a bold red tone that somehow does not seem odd in the setting. And the skies over the river in the first photo look so soft and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe first shot is lovely with the pretty sky and dam! You camera has great zoom.. Wonderful photos, have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteHow interesting
ReplyDeleteLove the red chain fence. I had many family reunions at Pickwick as a child. We had relatives in Savannah. We share some of the same stomping ground. I live in northWest Alabama and my husband is a cancer patient at Vandy.
ReplyDeleteI love the red chain fence.
ReplyDeleteLove the skies against the dam and bridge, very cool shot!
