Autumn Butterflies September 22-23, 2013

Viceroy Butterfly, Limenitis archippus
This Viceroy Butterfly was visiting my garden on September 12, 2013

The above photo is Straight Out Of the Camera

We saw these butterflies on a Natchez Trace Parkway hiking trail

I think they are Hackberry Emperor Butterflies (Asterocampa celtis)
Instead of visiting flowers, they drink sap from the Hackberry Tree.
I guess they like salty sweat, too!

  3. Wonderful butterfly shots! I can never seem to get close to the really pretty ones, only to the friendly but rather homely little Skippers.

  4. Fantastic shots. I don't know how you get those butterflies to be still!

  5. Splendid shots - they look a bit like Monarchs.

The flowers in my pictures are proteas.
