The Eastern Bluebird,
Sialia sialis, is a small thrush with a round head and bright eyes. The male is dark blue with a rust colored breast and belly. (The streak through his eye in this photo is a shadow).

The female is a more muted grayish blue with a rust colored breast and white belly. They are cavity nesting birds that feed on insects. You may be able to attract them to your yard by putting up nesting boxes and offering mealworms on a platform feeder.
Have a wonderful day!

NOTE: Please do not use my photos without my permission.
It is a very appealing little bird and humans seem to respond to it instinctively.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see one of these beautiful birds.
ReplyDeleteHello, Lea
ReplyDeleteBeautiful captures of the Bluebirds! They are one of my favorites!
Have a happy day!
So sweet, Lea!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty bird and nice capture Lea. My sister in law recently told me they had been some bluebirds but I've haven't had that pleasure. Take care.
ReplyDeletePretty little ones.
ReplyDeleteThey are sweet little buddies, aren't they? I don't have any in my shady garden, but I see them and hear them at the nearby prairies. :)
ReplyDeleteI love bluebirds but I don't see them very often.
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous little creatures! The colors are amazing.
ReplyDeleteYour link at 'My Corner of the World' this week is an exciting addition! Thanks for joining us!
