American Robins,
Turdus migratorius, are the largest American members of the Thrush family. Their main food sources are insects, worms, and fruit.

They can be found over most of the North American continent with the northernmost birds migrating south during the coldest weather. They are so well-known that bird guide books sometimes use them to describe the sizes of other birds: "smaller than a Robin" "larger than a Robin" "Robin-sized."

American Robins remain here in ever greater numbers each winter. I saw eight in a tree yesterday.

ReplyDeleteThe robins I saw yesterday had aligned themselves along the roofline of a building, and I did a doubletake, because they were so perfectly separated as to look like ornamental architecture.
