1. Pickwick Lake (Sky Watch Friday)
|
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, July 4, 2018 |
On Wednesday we went to the Pickwick Inn Restaurant for their lunch buffet. The food was good (I had fried chicken, green beans, corn on the cob, a small green salad, and spice cake), and we had a great view of the lake from our table.
And we were entertained by a cute squirrel on the balcony just outside the restaurant windows.
A closer look at the picnic and swimming areas. Even with mostly cloudy skies, the temperature rose to 95F (35C). I was glad I was eating inside instead of out there at one of the picnic tables!
2. Good Food! - Outback Steakhouse
|
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, June 24, 2018 |
Due to a mix-up in the kitchen, I got a larger serving of ribs than usually comes on the Drover's Ribs and Chicken Platter at Outback Steakhouse. BBQ Ribs, BBQ Chicken, Steamed Vegetables with Honey-mustard Dipping Sauce, and Honey Wheat Bushman Bread.
3. The Most Interesting Thing I have Seen This Week
|
Colbert County, Alabama, USA, July 2, 2018 |
Walking along beside the Tennessee River near Wilson Dam, I was surprised to see a tree growing from a crevice in the rock cliff. The 'Dangerous Waters' sign is to warn boats to stay away from the dam. The hanging greenery on the right side of the photo is Trumpet Vines.
4. Butterfly (Saturday's Critters)
|
Colbert County, Alabama, USA, July 2, 2018 |
As I was getting back in the car after our walk along the Tennessee River, a Hackberry Emperor Butterfly,
Asterocampus celtis, landed on my arm.
These friendly little butterflies are attracted to the salt and other minerals in human sweat. I had to shoo it off before I got into the car!
5. Great Egret (Weekend Reflections and I'd Rather B Birdin')
|
Itawamba County, Mississippi, USA, July 2, 2018 |
I saw this Great Egret,
Ardea alba, in a slough as we drove along the highway. My dear husband turned the car around and drove down a service road so I could get photos.
.
