Wren, June 13, 2018

ABC Wednesday, Wild Bird Wednesday, and Wednesday Around The World
W is for Wrens - small brownish birds with loud voices

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, May 2, 2018
The Carolina Wren, Thryothorus ludovicianus, is a resident of the eastern half of the United States. They will come to suet feeders in the winter, and they like chopped peanuts, shelled out sunflower seeds, and mealworms. In warmer weather they eat a wide variety of insects.

Keeping a brush pile in your yard to give them shelter will encourage them to stay with you.

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, June 5, 2018
I have a pair of Carolina Wrens nesting in a hanging basket plant on my front porch. If you look closely, you can see the eggs. But I will stay away from the nest until they hatch. I hope I can get photos of the babies!

Have a wonderful day!

Bird Nest, June 12, 2018

Tree Following, All Seasons, and Our World Tuesday

Tree Following is a fun meme! Just choose a tree and photograph it throughout the year as the seasons change. Post photos on your blog and link up to Tree Following between the 7th and 14th of each month. Easy and Fun to do!

Lee County, Mississippi, USA, June 9, 2018
This year I am following a young Red Maple tree in a small community park. There is a playground for children, a walking track, and a building for community events.

And look! A Nest! It is too high up for me to see inside the nest, and I would not want to disturb the birds anyway.

NOTE: There was a nest in the tree when I photographed it in the Winter. Now that the leaves are so dense, I cannot tell if this is a new nest or the old one.

I cannot be sure whose nest it is, but this Northern Mockingbird kept flying back and forth, scolding me for being too close to the tree!

Have a wonderful day!

The Barn Collective, Saturday's Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, June 9, 2018
I pulled over to the side of the road for just a minute to get a photo of this barn. I have seen horses in this pasture, but of course none were in sight yesterday.

B&W: Mural, June 9, 2018

Corinth, Mississippi, USA, June 8, 2018
A strong overhead light created a glare on the top right portion of this mural in an Italian Restaurant. Very annoying in color, but I find the glare much easier to tolerate in black and white. Just use your imagination to see the brown cobblestone street and light yellow houses with red roofs. There are green fields beyond the arched wall at the end of the street.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Willy Nilly Friday, June 8, 2018

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday, Weekend Reflections, Floral Friday Fotos,
and on Saturday, Saturday's Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

1. Beautiful Blue Sky (Weekend Reflections and Sky Watch Friday)
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, June 4, 2018
This is the view of Pickwick Lake from the Pickwick Inn Restaurant where we met friends for lunch on Monday. The yellow floating circle encloses a swimming area.

2. Good Food!
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, June 2, 2018
I thoroughly enjoyed my 50th class reunion last weekend! Tupelo High School '68! The covered serving dishes at the end of the table kept the meats and vegetables hot until we were ready to eat. After the meal we enjoyed music from the '60s. And some of us old folks can still dance!

3. Spring Azure Butterfly (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, June 1, 2018
A tiny butterfly, the Spring Azure can be found in most parts of North America.

4. Brown Thrasher (I'd Rather B Birdin')
Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, June 4, 2018
A Brown Thrasher, Toxostoma rufum, searching for insects in a field of clover.

5. Coreopsis (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, May 15, 2018
Commonly called Tickseed, Coreopsis is a genus of perennial plants that are easy to grow. They tolerate hot weather and are pollinator friendly. There are different kinds of Coreopsis, most of them with yellow or orange blooms. I think these are Coreopsis lanceolata.
