The Eastern Bluebirds, Sialia sialis, are inspecting their house, getting ready for Spring! That is the female on the housetop; the male has found a twig to cling to above her.

At first I thought this was a Red-shouldered Hawk, Buteo lineatus. But then, looking at its tail, I thought: Cooper's Hawk, Accipiter cooperii. So to make a long story short, I don't know which Hawk this is! I am hoping someone can help me with identification.

We have had very nice weather in January. Some rain, but mostly sunny days like this one earlier in the month. Our nighttime temperatures are near or below freezing, but the days warm up to about 50F (10C).

I am delighted to have a Red-breasted Nuthatch, Sitta canadensis, coming to my suet feeder!

It is a Winter visitor to our area and will return to its northern breeding territory in the Spring.
