Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, May 30, 2021 |
There are more than 3,500 soldiers' graves from the American Civil War (1861-1865).
The taller markers have names on them; the shorter markers are unknown soldiers.
.
I picked one grave at random for a close-up photo. (One of my ancestors fought in the Civil War. He was wounded, but survived the war.)
I hope you have a beautiful day!

ReplyDeleteTake care, have a happy day and a great new week!
Such a wonderful tradition and remembrance.
ReplyDeleteIt never ends.
ReplyDeletea sad reminder of the war between Americans
ReplyDeleteA fitting place for the occasion.
ReplyDeleteMy sister in law counts James Longstreet as a distant relative.
I've never been to the Shiloh battlefield but I have been to Vicksburg and the row upon row of graves with so many the unknown is sobering.
ReplyDeleteI had ancestors who fought in the Civil War, too. (In fact, I think even some who fought in the Revolutionary War!) The remembrances are important. And the learning from the past.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Lea.

Great shots! I haven't been to Shiloh but it was the scene of much suffering.
ReplyDeleteThe history of this war is interesting & heartbreaking ... Humbling images for the holiday of remembering.
