Woodpecker, December 11, 2019

ABC Wednesday and Wild Bird Wednesday
W is for Woodpecker

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, December 5, 2019
The Downy Woodpecker, Dryobates pubescens, is just one of more than 200 Woodpecker species found worldwide. Woodpeckers search for insects hiding under the bark of trees, and are known for the drumming sound they make as their bills strike the tree trunks.

You can attract them to your yard by offering suet. I made this photo through my dining room window.

Have a wonderful day!

  1. I haven't had a woodpecker come to the feeder yet. Sure hope they find it before long.
