Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day, December 2019

The northeast corner of Mississippi, USA zone 7b

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, November 19, 2019
I usually buy Amaryllis bulbs each year to have indoor blooms for Christmas. This year I bought two bulb kits (pots, potting soil, and bulbs) - "just add water and enjoy!" There are more complete instructions underneath the paper lid.

Buds! but no blooms yet.

And outside...
… buds on the Hellebores..

  2. I keep my Amaryllis each year and now have 5 but no buds yet. Love the Cardinal!

  3. Your potted amaryllis bulbs are much farther along than my waxed amaryllis. I'm not sure this new "carefree" plant is going to work for me. All those buds promise much beauty to come and cardinals are beautiful and ornamental at any time of the year.

  4. Hope you enjoy the Amaryllis flowers - they may take a while to bloom, but then you get a couple of weeks of their beauty. I actually have an orchid that's pushing up a stalk...my first time to hopefully get a second bloom from one.

  6. I skipped the amaryllis this year, they were much more expensive than in past years! Scrub jays are the brightest birds I see here, a cardinal was sited in OR once, I guess it was lost!

  7. Your Hellebores are off to a faster start than mine, Lea! I love the shot of the beautiful cardinal, which isn't something you see in my part of the country.

  8. I bought a cheap amaryllis on Black Friday and haven't gotten around to planting it- I really need to. I look forward to seeing your blooms (next month?) My hellebore that buds in January hasn't started yet - and I am in no hurry, as some years it is caught by very cold weather and the buds don't make it.

  9. Love the Cardinal shot! I miss those beautiful birds. We used to see a lot of them when I lived in Ohio. My hellebores are budding, too. To my mind, you can never have enough of those!

  11. Enjoy your Amaryllis! I think its more fun to buy the bulbs and watch them grow. The Hellebores are fun too with blooms in winter. Mine didn't bloom until late February-early March last year. Hopefully they will come sooner this year. Happy Bloom Day!

  12. I am often surprised at how early 'spring' growth starts in some plants.
