Great Blue Heron, December 20, 2017

Wild Bird Wednesday and Wednesday Around The World

Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, December 18, 2017
Great Blue Herons, Ardea Herodias, are the largest of the North American Herons. They stand motionless or wade slowly through the water searching for fish, their main source of food.

They are my favorite birds; their stillness makes them easy to photograph!

Have a wonderful day!

  1. They are a favorite of mine, too. I saw one yesterday standing in a shallow pond, but by the time DC got the truck stopped and reversed, it was gone. Would have been a great shot. I usually only see them on the edge of the water. Happy Holidays!

  5. I love great blue herons! They are only still until they see me; then they fly off so quickly I barely catch a blur!
