Critters: Brown Thrasher, March 4, 2017

Saturday's Critters, Camera Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, January 27, 2017
Brown Thrashers, Toxostoma rufum, relatives of Mockingbirds and Catbirds, can imitate an amazing number of other bird's songs. They live in dense shrubs, hedgerows, and edges of forests in eastern and central United States and southern Canada.

Since they are ground feeders that eat insects, worms, berries, fruit and seeds, I was surprised to see this one on my suet feeder. It must be the sunflower seeds in the suet that attracted him. These photos are not as clear as I would like them to be; they were made through my dining room window.

Have a great week-end!

  6. I like these birds and see them out as we leave the strip pit area but never close enough to get a shot of one.

  7. Nice shots of the brown thrasher. I had one visit last year but haven't been lucky enough to see one this year.

  8. Don't ya just LOVE how nature takes over and the camouflage is so identical to their environment most times? These are perfect examples of nature at its best. Great captures, great bird.

Thanks so much for joining in with us bird enthusiasts this weekend and sharing your link at I'd Rather B Birdin'!
