Red-tailed Hawks, Buteo jamaicensis, can be found all across North America.

It flew farther away from me into the trees. Notice the brownish-red tail that gives it its name.

Have a great day!

Eastern Gray Squirrel

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, January 27, 2024
This is the reason we have to spend more money than we want to on bird food:  the Eastern Gray Squirrel. This one is especially fond of the suet we put out for the Woodpeckers!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Bluebird (from my archives)

My Corner of the World and Wild Bird Wednesday

Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, January 6, 2023
We have had very cold weather with snow and sleet on the ground for a week. Higher temperatures yesterday and rain has melted the snow, and it is still raining today. To find a bird photo for today, I looked at photos from January of last year and found this male Eastern Bluebird, Sialia sialis, on a fence post looking for something to eat.
I hope you are having a good week!

I was very surprised to see this Barred Owl, aka Hoot Owl, Strix varia, in my front yard last Saturday afternoon!

Sky Watch Friday

We are hoping the sunshine will help melt the snow/sleet/ice combination that has been on the ground and the roads since Monday. But today's high temperature is predicted to be just barely above freezing.

Happy Friday!

Thankful Thursday

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, January 18, 2024
I am thankful that my pantry shelves were full - no need to rush to the grocery store before the winter storm.
I am thankful we had more propane added to our tank last week - no worry about not being warm enough.
I am thankful that the electric power stayed on - the snow and sleet did not cause trees to fall on the lines.
I am thankful that I have 10 books checked out from the library, and thankful for the extra time to read!

Have a blessed day!
