And just down the street...

I found this mock-up of an antique car (to be used in parades, I think)

Have a great week!

The Barn Collective, January 7, 2018

Lee County, Mississippi, USA, December 25, 2017
I remember this old barn from when I was a child. Back then there were horses in the pasture, and the man who owned them was a farrier (a person who shoes horses).

Willy Nilly Friday, January 5, 2018

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday,
and on Saturday: - Saturday's Critters, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

1. Clear and Cold (Sky Watch Friday)
Baldwyn, Mississippi, USA, January 4, 2018
There was a thin skim of ice on this small lake at noon yesterday. Temperature 27F (-3C).

2. The Most Unusual Thing I have Seen This Week
Waterloo, Alabama, USA, December 29, 2017
I saw this fire fighter sculpture in front of a Fire Station.

3. Did You Know?
"In the midst of Canada's forested terrain looms an unlikely expanse of the world's most northerly active sand dunes. What forces of nature created this rare ecosystem which hosts life found nowhere else on earth?"

Booneville, Mississippi, USA, December 7, 2017

4. Good Food
For a quick, easy meal:

Boneless, fully cooked ham steak (from refrigerated meat section of the grocery store)
Small can pineapple (chunks or slices)
Brown sugar (generous sprinkle)

Place fully cooked ham in a baking dish. Sprinkle generously with brown sugar. Pour juice from the canned pineapple around the edges of the ham. Arrange pineapple on top. Bake at 350℉ for 15 or 20 minutes.

Serve with your favorite vegetables. We like peas and corn.
4 servings. Left-over ham makes a good sandwich the next day!

5. Favorite Photo of the Week (Saturday's Critters and I'd Rather B Birdin')
Lauderdale County, Alabama, USA, December 29, 2017
This Great Blue Heron photo will always remind me of the wonderful time we had driving along beside the Tennessee River last week. The day was sunny, but cold. The water was sparkling in the sun, and we saw a multitude of birds.

Have a wonderful week-end!

Thankful Thursday, January 4, 2018

Good Fences, Thankful Thursday, and Little Things Thursday

Lauderdale County, Alabama, USA, December 29, 2017
Today I am thankful that we spent all day last Friday driving around northwest Alabama. It was a beautiful sunny day, but with a cold wind coming off the Tennessee River. This fence separates the parking lot from the picnic area at Brush Creek Park. Too cold to picnic, we ate at a restaurant!

Lauderdale County, Alabama, USA, December 29, 2017
And the birds were cooperative. This Ring-billed Gull seemed to enjoy posing for me.

I hope you are having a beautiful day!

Storm Shelter, January 1, 2018

Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, December 22, 2017
This pretty community storm shelter is designed to keep 40 people safe during severe storms. The front faces the east; the tree is painted on the north wall. I do not know who drew the patterns, but the actual painting was done by the Keep Tupelo Beautiful group of folks.

This happy sun is on the south wall. This is a total flight of fancy - no mountains near Tupelo!
Small storm shelters are in various neighborhoods, and there are larger shelters at the schools.

I am not sure what the west wall mural portrays. It looks like a huge Easter egg to me!

Happy New Year!
