Osprey

Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, May 14, 2023
Ospreys, Pandion halaietus, are migratory birds whose range covers most of North America. This one's nest is on an electric power structure at Pickwick Dam on the Tennessee River. Osprey nests increase in size as new plant material (see the green) is added each year.

    These are such beautiful birds. I would think we would see more of them here but we rarely do. Happy weekend!

    Fascinating! We see a few osprey nests at our favorite state park near our home. It's a joy to see them return and care for the eggs and young throughout the nesting season. :)
