September was hot and dry; October is cooler and was very dry until it rained on Wednesday.

 My Asters ignored the dry conditions and have been (and still are) blooming profusely.

I was hoping to get a photo of this Cardinal taking a bath, but it suddenly flew away. I thought it had spotted me, but that wasn't what scared it away.

I am especially thankful today for roadside produce stands. Look what I found this morning - large, speckled butterbeans! Aren't they beautiful? And they will be delicious when we eat them for supper tonight.
