Mullein, August 1, 2016

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 30, 2016
Common Mullein, Verbascum Thapsus, with its tiny flowers on a slender bloom stalk, is often considered to be a weed, but on close inspection it is revealed to be a beautiful wildflower.

Have a great week!

  1. mullein is one of my favorite flowers/weeds. I am happy when I see them growing along the roadside but I've never tried to grow them in my garden.

  3. I have a great fondness for common mullein, but it can be a pretty aggressive self-seeder (producing many, many viable seeds) which is why people find it weedy. It's a biennial, and I also like the soft rosettes of the first-year plant. But in the right spot, with lots of room and a watchful eye, it can be a wonderful upright addition to a garden. Nice photo.

  5. I do love these flowers! The problem is finding just the right spot for them.
