Of Hawks and Mockingbirds, April 11, 2015

Lee county, Mississippi, USA, April 5, 2015

Last Sunday's skies were overcast, but when I saw this Hawk on a highway sign I decided to try to get a photo.

To my great surprise a Mockingbird attacked the Hawk!  I know Mockingbirds aggressively defend their territory, but I had never before seen one challenge a Hawk.

I guess we know who is 'King of the Hill' now!

Have a Great Week-end!

  3. It looks like the mockingbird was pretty effective in taking over the sign post. And the hawk is so much bigger and a raptor!

  7. Oh yes....I've read that even the mockingbirds will attack humans if too close to their nesting territory, so this doesn't surprise me.

  8. Nice shots - I really like watching these crazy braze birds when that take on birds of prey.
