Spirea, November 19, 2014

ABC Wednesday and Outdoor Wednesday
S is for Spirea

Spirea is a group of about 100 shrubs native to the northern hemisphere. I am not sure which Spirea I have, as it was here when I moved in over 30 years ago. I think it may be 'Ogon'
Buds begin to form in late Winter or very early in the Spring.

Blooms are small, but there are thousands of them!

In the Spring, every stem is completely covered with tiny white blooms.

And then in the Autumn, it puts on a beautiful red/orange display.  My Spirea is in
part shade/mostly sun and requires very little care. A great shrub for all seasons!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  1. I like how you show the plant in the Spring and then in the Fall. Excellent job!

  2. They work good in our yard. Don't have to water them even in the dry times.

  3. Spirea is a bush for all seasons. Lovely in spring and wise in autumn.
    Thanks for your post
    Have a great week,

  4. I've always loved the look and the smell of the spirea when it blooms.

  5. Wow spring in your area its awesome!

  6. That's a gorgeous plant. I wonder it would grow well in California. Something for me to look up.

  7. Very nice looking plants - we have a very similar looking plant here, tiny white flowers in spring, but no real autumn colours as it does not shed its leaves.

PS: sorry for slow reply, I've been away from home because of work!

  8. Happy Wednesday, and Happy Friday. My dad has been in the hospital so my days are all mixed up, and I feel very behind. Thanks for sharing the pictures, they made me smile!!
