Butterfly Bush July 27, 2013

I went outside to prune off the spent flowers from the Butterfly Bush.
.
And ran back inside to get my camera!
.
We have not seen many butterflies this year.
So it was thrilling to see a half dozen Swallowtails all at once.
.
Easy to see why Buddleia is called Butterfly Bush!
.
.
Have a wonderful week-end!

  7. Wonderful pictures, the butterflies are so pretty. We seem to have had a lot this year. I keep having to rescue them from the house.

  9. Beautiful butterfly shots! I haven't tried sneaking up on them, I don't have a telephoto lens so have to get really close. They are visiting my Buddleia too but I noticed the flowers are turning brown. I haven't watered them yet this summer, i guess I will have to drag a hose over there.

  10. My cousin just shared some fab butterfly photos--she does one of those butterfly tracking/ID things for her locqal nature group. Your photos top here though but shhhh! :-)

  11. They are back! They are back. From now to frost, we'll enjoy their beauty. Tigers are so beautiful. It takes great patience to get such nice photos.

I can't grow buddleia because of soil nematodes but other nectar sources do well here.

  12. Gorgeous images! My Butterfly Bush is just now starting to bloom a little bit. It's supposed to be a tri-color (white, pink, and purple), but it looks like all the blooms are going to be white except for one pink this year.

  13. Truly gorgeous butterflies (and pics!). I think we can only see our native swallowtails in the Norfolk broads (in the south east of England) here in the UK, but what spectacular creatures!
