Carolina Wren, Thryothorus ludovicianus. It's Spring and time for the birds to build their nests. But the empty flowerpots on my front porch is not a good place for a nest!

I hope you are having a good week!

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day

The 15th of each month is Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day over at May Dreams Gardens.

I am in the northeast corner of Mississippi, USA zone 7b.

A wildflower, Spiderwort, blooming in the rain. The other photos were made before the rain began.

Another wildflower, Butterweed, likes moist soil, and we have had plenty of rain this Spring!

Wild Violets

Most of my Daffodils bloomed last month, but there are still a few of these that make two blooms per stem.

 Hellebores

Red Buckeyes are shrubs that attract Hummingbirds.

Clematis

In memory of the time when Foliage Follow-up was the day after Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day: the leaf of a Tulip Poplar Tree waiting to unfurl.

Happy Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!

Cranefly

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, April 1, 2023
We have had a lot of rain this week, so I haven't been outside very much, but I found this Cranefly on the edge of the carport roof. Craneflies look like large mosquitos, but they are not mosquitos. They are completely harmless and live only 10 to 15 days.

Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, April 4, 2023
We took advantage of the sunshine on Tuesday to go to Shiloh National Military Park. This area is off-limits to protect a Bald Eagle's nest. It rained the rest of the week, and more rain is in the forecast today.

Have a great weekend!

Mayapples

Thankful Thursday and Little Things Thursday

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, April 6, 2023
I am thankful to see wildflowers blooming!
These are Mayapples, Podophyllum peltatum, a native woodland plant of the eastern half of North America.

They bloom where the two leaves join the main stem. Beautiful even in the rain!
Plants with only one leaf do not bloom.

Have a great day!
