Canada Goose, April 2, 2022

Saturday's Critters and I'd Rather B Birdin'

Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, March 27, 2022
Last year a pair of Ospreys raised two chicks on this nesting platform out in Pickwick Lake.

But look who is nesting there this year...

... a Canada Goose!
Fortunately, baby Geese can swim the day after hatching, but that is a long way down to the water!

Have a wonderful weekend!

I am linking in today with Saturday's Critters and I'd Rather B Birdin'

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

"Know ye that the Lord he is God; it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful unto Him and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endures to all generations" Psalm 100:3-5

  1. Ha, that is interesting. Usually the Geese have their nest on the ground. Maybe it is just resting there. Great captures. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a happy weekend.

  2. Hello,:=) The little chicks will have a long fall to the water, if the goose makes it's nest on the nesting platform.

  3. I have seen them have nests up in the crotch of a tree and the poor babies would have a hard landing. At least the water is soft.

    1. I know that Wood Ducks nest in tree cavities, and the babies jump out without being injured.

  8. That really surprises me that a goose would choose a place to far from the water's edge. - Margy

  9. This made me do some research, and it seems that Canada Geese are quite adaptable in where they nest. There was an online news article from 2020 I found where a Canada goose used a similar platform near Duck, North Carolina (Outer Banks). I didn't see anything about the fate of the goslings but it did mention the ospreys intending to nest on the platform fought the geese, and finally gave up.
