Macro Monday January 23 2012

...
These Hellebores blooms hang down facing the ground.
My camera has a Macro Mode and Auto-Focus setting.
I held the camera down touching the ground and clicked upward sight unseen.
(That's why the background looks kind of strange).
My first few shots were only half a bloom,
but I kept adjusting the angle slightly until I was rewarded with this beauty!

Happy Macro Monday!

  2. I love hellebores, though it's hard to get a proper photo of them with their heads hanging down.

  3. Hi Lea! I love this shot. It reminded me of one of my hellebores pictures. When I uploaded it, I saw a slug in the middle of the flower. You never know what can be down there!

  4. This is really a fascinating flower indeed. I've done many posses like you, and I even lift the flower upward to just take a picture :-)

  8. Love all your photos and you did good with that hellebore. They really are not the easiest things to photograph, are they? :-)

  10. So pretty. What lengths we go to for our photography but when the result is as nice as this it's worth it.

  11. Woof Lea!
I saw your lounging cat, the black dog, the long deserted road, and your opening bloom and I enjoyed it all. Have a great roaring dragon year!

  12. Thanks for all your comments!

To answer the question about the Hellebores foliage - The newest leaves just under the buds have a light reddish tint to the undersides, but the leaves turn completely green as they grow larger. The way the light is shining in the photo, it highlights the leaf veins and magnifies the immature leaf color.
    Have a great day!
    Lea

  14. Beautiful. It was worth that awkward position getting down on the ground.
