Blue Skies, January 16-17, 2014

Wednesday, January 15, 2014, Prentiss county, Mississippi, USA
This is the view from under our Pecan Tree. The evergreen trees are Pines, the others are Oaks.
We have enjoyed sunny skies this week with temperatures not as cold as last week.

Bloom Day Buds, January 15, 2014

Winter has been unusually cold here in the southern part of the country (US zone 7), too.
Even my Pansies have been nipped back. Hopefully they will be blooming again soon.
No blooms can be found, but I do have some buds to show for this January Bloom Day.

Spirea
From a distance the Spirea shrub appears to be still dormant. But look closer!
Very tiny buds are getting ready to open. Even though the buds are red, the flowers are white.
This photo is highly enlarged. They really are the smallest buds you can imagine.

Carolina Jessamine
The top one-fourth of the Jessamine Vine froze, but down near the base, buds are forming.
I do hope these are flower buds, and not just new leaves.

Hellebores
You can't really see it yet, but inside this cup of new leaves is a Hellebores bud!

Rabbit, January 11, 2014

Tuesday, January 7, 2014
I was very surprised to see a rabbit at the bird feeders near the house on Tuesday.
We sometimes see them at dawn or dusk at the edge of the woods, but this sighting
was near noon. I guess the very cold weather made it hungrier and bolder.

Have a wonderful week-end!

We are Beginning to Thaw Out, January 9-10, 2014

Thursday 10:00 am, Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA
After three days of below freezing temperatures (day and night), we are beginning to thaw out.
But clouds are coming in - a rainy week-end ahead.
I hope we are back to our usual winter weather: below freezing at night, but above in the daytime.
Hope your weather is good!

Colder Temperatures Moving In, January 3, 2014

Hay Field, Thursday, January 2, 2014, Lee County, Mississippi, USA
New Year's Day was sunny and mild, but yesterday the temperature had dropped to near freezing by mid-afternoon on the way down to a predicted low of 18F. But the real shocker
comes on Monday. The forecast is for a high of 23F and a low of 7F. For you Celsius folks,
that is minus 5C and minus 13C. Seriously cold for our part of the country!
