Surprise! July 17, 2018

Our World Tuesday and All Seasons

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, July 17, 2018
Surprise Lilies, Lycoris squamigera, are members of the Amaryllis family of plants. They grow from bulbs and put up large green sword-shaped leaves in the Spring. Then the foliage dies down and you wait and wait...

Suddenly the blooms appear on tall stalks! They are sometimes called 'Naked Ladies' because there are no leaves when they bloom. The foliage you see here is from Turk's Cap, Malviviscus.

Pretty in pink with Turk's Cap foliage around them.

And the Hummingbird's love them! Sorry this photo is so blurry; Hummingbirds move fast!

And my Hummingbirds are rather shy; they like to hide from my camera!

Have a beautiful day!
