American Goldfinch, June 27, 2018

Wild Bird Wednesday, Wednesday Around The World
And on Saturday, I'd Rather B Birdin'

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, June 17, 2018
The American Goldfinch, Spinus trisits, is a strict vegetarian, eating seeds only. They nest later in the year than many other birds so that seeds are plentiful to feed their young ones. They can be found year-round in the mid-section of the United States. In the Spring some Goldfinch flocks migrate to southern Canada to breed and raise their young. Then they return to the southern United States and Mexico for the Winter. Here in north Mississippi, they stay with us all year.

Have a wonderful day!

  4. We only get them here in Southeast Texas in late fall, generally early December, wearing their winter clothes, so we never see them in the bright colors shown in your picture. They are welcome nevertheless.

  5. We get them most of the year here except in the very dead of winter. It is so nice to see their colors changing and to know that spring is here!
