Mushrooms, October 25, 2014

October 21, 2014, Straight Out of the Camera
It must be all the rain we had a week ago.  Mushrooms are popping up everywhere. Though I looked at pages of mushroom photos, I still do not know what these are.

October 21, 2014, Prentiss County, Mississippi
There was a circle of them by the side of the road.  As you can see, they are really huge and have a very short, almost non-existent stem. Certainly poisonous, so I left them there.

Have a wonderful day!

Sky Watch Friday, October 24, 2014

We've had a week of beautiful sunny skies. The trees are just beginning to show a little Autumn color. All my potted plants are still out on the porch.  I'll have to bring them in before we have frost, but the weather forecast is for another week of mild temperatures.

Geranium, October 20, 2014
One of my Geraniums has decided to bloom again before it goes indoors for the winter.

Begonia, October 20, 2014
I thought this Begonia was probably dead, but I took it outside in the Spring with my other potted plants. It perked up over the Summer and is now completely covered in blooms!

Hope you have a beautiful week-end!

ABC Wednesday and Outdoor Wednesday, October 22, 2014

ABC Wednesday
O is for Oxalis

Oxalis grow all around the world except in the polar regions. They may be grown as potted plants or as garden ornamentals. Leaves may have from 3 to 10 leaflets.

The flowers have 5 petals and may be white, yellow, pink or multi-colored. Here in US zone 7,
my Oxalis flower from Spring to late Autumn.

And now for Outdoor Wednesday:

Greetings from Pontotoc High School, Pontotoc, Mississippi, USA

Rain, Rain and More Rain, October 16-17, 2014

Pickwick Dam on the Tennessee River, Wednesday, October 15, 2014
Though this looks like a black and white photo, it is not.

In the past week, we've had three severe thunderstorms, each one bringing a tremendous downpour of rain.  Now the clouds are gone, and we are looking forward to sunny days.

Hope you have a beautiful week-end!

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day October 2014

Encore Azalea 'Autumn Beauty'

An Encore Azalea blooms in the Spring when other Azaleas do, then it blooms again in the Autumn - an encore performance!

Butterfly Bush

My Butterfly Bush as been blooming for months, even though I have not been able to deadhead as I usually do.  It is really big now, taller than I am.  Does anyone have suggestions for me about when and how much to prune it back?

We've had a lot of rain these first two weeks of October.  Day temperatures are mild and nights are cool.  Our Hummingbirds have left to go South for the Winter, but we have a couple of feeders still out in case stragglers come by.  A few days ago I bought Pansy plants (hardy all winter here in US zone 7) so that I will have some blooms as the weather gets colder.

Happy Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!

Sky Watch Friday, October 3, 2014

Early Morning Sky, October 1, 2014
Photography Tip: Look for natural frames to enhance your photos.
This arch is at the motel where we stayed in  Dickson, TN
On Tuesday we went to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee, to see a Leukemia specialist.  They did some tests to determine which sub-type of Leukemia I have.  Each sub-type has different treatment options for follow-up care.  Test results should come in about 10 days.

Hope you have a beautiful week-end!
